Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
The described behavior matches a known limitation in Outlook’s handling of online meeting data for recurring Zoom meetings.
For recurring Zoom meetings where individual occurrences are modified (for example, Zoom regenerates a new join link for a specific week), Outlook stores only one “global” online meeting URL on the main series item. The Join button in Outlook always uses this single, original URL and does not update per occurrence, even if the Zoom add‑in correctly updates the meeting body with a new link.
This can cause symptoms such as:
- Joining the wrong Zoom meeting or an outdated instance.
- Confusion about timing or access when the organizer changes details for a single occurrence.
To work around this limitation for the weekly meeting:
- Use the Zoom link in the meeting body instead of the Outlook Join button, especially if the organizer has changed the Zoom link for a particular week.
- Avoid changing the Zoom meeting URL for single occurrences of a recurring series. If a different link is required for a specific week, create a separate Zoom meeting and send a separate invite for that occurrence.
These steps ensure that Outlook’s handling of the recurring series does not interfere with timely and correct access to the Zoom meeting.
