“Check that the details in all fields are correct or try a different card,”

Hello, everyone.

I am trying to sign up for a free Azure account for a course I am taking, but every card I use is being rejected. I keep receiving the same message: “Check that the details in all fields are correct or try a different card,” which is strange because the error appears specifically for the cardholder's name.

I understand that I cannot use Revolut or virtual cards. However, I have tried both a UK debit card and a UK credit card, and both were still rejected.

Can anyone help, please?

Thank you.

The error indicates that Azure’s identity verification by card is failing, even though the message is shown on the cardholder name field. Common causes and actions based on documented behavior:

    1. Verify card type and issuer
      • Virtual and prepaid cards (including Revolut and similar fintech products) are not accepted for Azure sign-up.
      • Use a standard debit or credit card issued by a recognized bank in the same country/region as selected during sign-up.
      • Ensure the country/region in the About you section matches the billing country of the card.
    2. Check all card details exactly
      • The name, address, and CVV must match exactly what the bank has on file.
      • Confirm:
        • Card number and expiration date
        • Cardholder name (no nicknames; use the legal name as on the card/bank statement)
        • Billing address (street, city, postcode) exactly as on the statement
      • If any detail is off (for example, different postcode or missing middle name), the verification can fail and surface as a generic field error.
    3. Confirm the card is active and allowed for online/international use
      • Contact the bank to verify:
        • The card is active and not blocked.
        • Online payments and international transactions are allowed.
        • There are no security blocks for Microsoft/Azure transactions.
    4. Browser and sign-up flow issues
      • Azure’s identity verification by card requires third-party cookies.
      • In the browser:
        • Allow third-party cookies (for example, in Chrome clear “Block third-party cookies and site data”; in Edge set Cookies to “Don’t block cookies”).
        • Clear cache/cookies or use a private/incognito window.
      • Then go back to https://portal.azure.com sign-up flow and retry.
    5. Region-specific limitations
      • Some regions only support certain card types (for example, only credit cards in some locations, or only Visa/Mastercard in others). If the UK region is selected, ensure the card is a UK-issued card and not tied to another region.
    6. If the issue persists
      • Try a different bank-issued card that meets the above rules.
      • If all compliant cards fail, raise a support request from the Azure portal sign-up help path so support can check the back-end risk/verification system for the account.
