Cannot login to Azure Portal

I have tried multiple attempts to login to Azure Portal using an email setup for school purposes. It prompts me to sign-in to provide password, 2fa and/or passkey and every time it prompts me to "Let's keep your account secure"...where I click next and it never loads. I've tried Chrome and Brave, both incognito mode; I've tried clearing my browser data (cache, cookies), disabling my vpn, restarting my browsers and devices, resetting my password and reconfiguring my 2fa.

The strangest part is that it lets me in at random...it's been occurring for two weeks now, but yesterday and today have resulted in hours of wasted time attempting to login.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Based on the symptoms (multiple successful credential/MFA prompts, then hanging on “Let’s keep your account secure”, sometimes working at random), this is most consistent with:

    • A temporary security/MFA-related block or risk-based challenge on the account
    • Or a sign-in/session issue caused by cached credentials/cookies or multiple accounts in the browser/Windows session

    Try the following in order:

    1. Avoid repeated sign-in attempts for a while
Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication can detect repeated or unusual sign-in attempts and temporarily block or throttle further attempts. When that happens, sign-in may appear to “hang” or fail unpredictably.
      • Stop trying to sign in for several hours.
      • Avoid many rapid retries, as this can extend the block.
      • If possible, try again after 24 hours. If still blocked, wait up to a week before more intensive retries.
    2. Try a different MFA method (if available)
If the block is tied to a specific verification method:
      • On the MFA prompt, choose an alternate method (for example, use email instead of SMS, or a different phone number) if your school account has more than one method configured.
      • If one method consistently fails or hangs, use another method until the block clears.
    3. Try a different network
High-volume or suspicious traffic from a particular network or region can cause temporary protection blocks.
      • Switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data.
      • If possible, try a completely different network (home vs. campus vs. mobile hotspot).
    4. Fully clear sign-in state and cached accounts
Since the portal sometimes works and sometimes hangs, clear all sign-in state before trying again:
      • Sign out of all Microsoft accounts in the browser.
      • Clear cookies and cache again, but ensure that all microsoft.com, login.microsoftonline.com, and related cookies are removed.
      • Use a private/incognito window with no other Microsoft accounts signed in.
      • If Windows has multiple work/school accounts attached, disconnect any unneeded ones under Settings → Accounts → Access work or school (if allowed by your school’s policy), then try again.
    5. Check for multiple-account auto sign-in issues
If the browser is automatically signing in as a different user, it can cause loops or partial sign-ins:
      • Use a private browsing session (InPrivate/Incognito) and go directly to the Azure portal sign-in page.
      • When prompted, explicitly choose “Use another account” and enter the school account.
    6. If the account is still unreliable, contact school IT / tenant admin
Because this is a school (work/school) account, the tenant’s security/MFA policies or conditional access rules might be causing intermittent prompts or blocks.
      Provide IT with:
      • Approximate timestamps of failed attempts
      • The fact that sign-in sometimes succeeds, but often hangs after “Let’s keep your account secure”
        Ask them to:
      • Review Microsoft Entra sign-in logs for this user to see if there are risk-based blocks, MFA misconfiguration, or conditional access failures.
      • Reset or re-register MFA for the account if needed.
      • Confirm there is no broader block or risk flag on the account or tenant.

If none of the above resolves the issue and you cannot reach school IT, wait at least 24 hours with no sign-in attempts, then retry from a different network and a clean private browser session.
