Prezados,User's image

  • Formatação completa do computador

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\170\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20260401_194303

Gostaria de suporte para identificar a causa raiz do problema e orientação para concluir a instalação com sucesso.

Agradeço desde já pela atenção.

Atenciosamente, João Pedro Beluso

The message Wait on the Database Engine recovery handle failed is a generic error that means that SQL Server did not start when Setup wanted to run configuration steps. To understand why it did not start, you need to look in the SQL Server errorlog, which you find in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL17.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG.

If you see a message about 256 misaligned reads, you are running into a known issue where Windows 11 for some disk drives reports a sector size that SQL Server does not cope with. Microsoft has published an article with workarounds for the problem. Don't forget to restart Windows after having applied the registry edit.

If you don't see the message about misaligned reads, feel free to upload the errorlog here, so we can look at it. You will need to rename to ERRORLOG.txt for the forum software to accept it.

The exit code -2061893606 / 0x851A001A with the message “Wait on the Database Engine recovery handle failed” means that, during setup, the SQL Server Database Engine service didn’t start. The context shows this error is often tied to disk sector‑size issues on Windows 11.

Follow these steps focusing on the SQL Server error log and the known Windows 11 sector‑size problem:

    1. Locate and open the SQL Server ERRORLOG
      • Go to the folder shown in the setup dialog: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\170\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20260401_194303.
      • In that folder, open Summary.txt and identify the feature failure for the Database Engine.
      • Then go into the subfolder for the instance (for example \MSSQLSERVER or \SQLEXPRESS) and open the ERRORLOG file under MSSQL\LOG.
    2. Check for disk sector‑size related messages
      • In the ERRORLOG, search for messages like:
        • “There have been 256 misaligned log IOs which required falling back to synchronous IO.”
        • “Cannot use file '…master.mdf' because it was originally formatted with sector size 4096 and is now on a volume with sector size 16384. Move the file to a volume with a sector size that is the same as or smaller than the original sector size.”
      • If such messages appear, the installation is failing because Windows 11 is reporting a disk sector size greater than 4 KB, which certain SQL Server builds cannot handle.
    3. Apply the sector‑size workaround (if the above messages are present)
      • The documented resolution for these errors is to follow the guidance in the article about “Troubleshoot SQL Server errors related to system disk sector size greater than 4 KB”.
      • Typical actions from that guidance include:
        • Moving database files (such as master.mdf) to a volume whose physical and logical sector size is 4 KB or smaller.
        • Ensuring LocalDB or SQL Server instances are created on such a volume.
      • After adjusting the storage as described in the article, rerun SQL Server 2025 Express setup.
    4. If no misaligned IO / sector‑size messages appear
      • The error is still that the Database Engine service did not start. Use the general troubleshooting methodology:
        1. From the setup failure screen, select Details to open the log folder.
        2. In Summary.txt, confirm which feature failed.
        3. Open the corresponding feature log (for example sql_engine_core_inst_Cpu64_1.log) in the same timestamped folder.
        4. Search for the keyword Failed and correlate with entries in the ERRORLOG to see the exact cause preventing the service from starting.
      • Once the specific cause is identified in the ERRORLOG (for example, file path, permissions, or other configuration), correct that issue and rerun setup.

If the ERRORLOG does show the “256 misaligned log IOs” or “sector size 16384” messages, resolving the disk sector‑size issue per the documented article is the key step to complete the SQL Server 2025 Express installation successfully on Windows 11.
