I can access it no problem from my laptop using google chrome.

But on my android phone, using the one drive app I can't access it. App said I had to set it up again. I did that but now get an error saying

"This Item can't be displayed Check your network connection, and then pull down to refresh"

If I pull down it says "Refresh failed. Make sure you're connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile netowrk and try again". Network is fine.

This problem occured after a recent android update. I tried reverting to factory installed one drive and repeating setup step but same thing. Updated one drive after that same thing.

Hello Chris Swainson!

Based on what you described, it seems you can access your OneDrive (including Personal Vault) normally on your laptop via browser, but on your Android phone the OneDrive app keeps asking you to set up the Vault again and then shows errors like “This item can’t be displayed” or “Refresh failed”, even though your network is working fine.

Since you mentioned this started after an update, it’s possible the Personal Vault is taking longer to fully sync than the rest of your OneDrive content. In some similar cases, users reported that the Vault did not appear or refresh properly at first but began working again after some time once the sync process completed.

See previous similar case: OneDrive Vault on Android

So, in addition to the steps suggested from Q&A Assist, it may be worth giving it a bit more time to finish updating.

Hope this helps. Please let me know how it goes on your side!

The issue is most likely with the OneDrive Android app on the updated phone rather than with the network or your vault itself. The available guidance for Android OneDrive problems focuses on reinstalling the app and ensuring permissions and connectivity are correct.

Try the following steps on the Android device:

    1. Confirm connectivity
      • Make sure other apps (browser, email) can reach the internet on the same Wi‑Fi or mobile network.
      • Some OneDrive features only work on Wi‑Fi depending on device or data plan settings, so if possible test on both Wi‑Fi and mobile data.
    2. Fully reset the OneDrive app (Android) This is the recommended fix for OneDrive app issues such as not launching, crashing, or failing to sync.
      1. Open Settings on the Android device.
      2. Go to Applications (or Apps).
      3. Tap Manage Applications (or App management), then find and tap OneDrive.
      4. Tap Force stop.
      5. Tap Clear data and Clear cache.
      6. After that completes, uninstall OneDrive from the device.
      7. Reinstall OneDrive from Google Play.
      8. Sign back in and set up Personal Vault again, then test access.
    3. Check storage/file permissions (Android 11+) If the app cannot read local storage correctly, some items and attachments can fail to open.
      1. On the Android device go to Settings > Permission Manager > Files and Media.
      2. Select OneDrive in the app list.
      3. Temporarily choose Deny.
      4. Open OneDrive again and try to access a file; when prompted, select Allow or Enable permissions.
    4. If the issue started exactly after a system update and affects multiple Microsoft apps
      • There is a known case where a regression in Android System WebView after a security update caused Microsoft apps (Outlook, Teams, etc.) to stop working correctly.
      • If other Microsoft apps on the same phone also misbehave, follow this pattern:
        • Go to Settings → search for Android System WebViewApp details in storeRemove updates.
        • Reboot the phone.
        • Go back to Android System WebViewApp details in storeUpdate.
        • Reboot again and test OneDrive.

If, after these steps, OneDrive still cannot display items in Personal Vault on that device while it works on the laptop and web, contact Microsoft Support from the OneDrive help channels for deeper investigation, as this may be a post‑update regression specific to that device/OS build.

    1. After that completes, uninstall OneDrive from the device: it cannot be unistalled, only disabled.

The app has all the permissions and it stores and shows everything without any issues. BUT, when it comes to the personal vault, the android app is simply a s**t.
I could even, with a lot of redoing steps and verifications, open the vault using a browser (android).

It is not an upload, connectivity, synchronization issue. It simply seems that I dont have a personal vault, and never set it before, which I also tried to do a couple of times, but it loops and never works.
