Renewing Microsoft 365 does not itself lock an account; the lockout is usually due to sign-in, security, or account-suspension issues.

    Take these steps in order:

    1. Confirm the subscription renewed
      1. Go to the Microsoft account, Payment & billing page.
      2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account used for the Microsoft 365 subscription.
      3. Check the subscription status:
        • If it shows Has recurring billing, the subscription is active and will renew on the listed date.
        • If it shows Expires on [date], it will end on that date unless renewed.
      4. If the subscription is active but apps still show subscription warnings or won’t install, contact Microsoft Support using the link in the next step.
    2. If renewed but still cannot install or use apps
      • If the subscription is active and the Install button or activation still does not work, contact Microsoft Support for direct assistance with the subscription and installation.
    3. If the account itself is locked or suspended
      • If sign-in does not show Next or indicates the account is locked, follow the aka.ms link shown on the lock screen to submit the account reinstatement form. A Microsoft Online Safety agent will review the request and contact by email.
      • Submit the form only once; multiple submissions can slow the response.
    4. If the account is locked due to suspicious activity
      • Microsoft may temporarily suspend accounts for suspected malware, phishing, or spam activity, or other violations of the Microsoft Services Agreement. In that case, the only path is to follow the reinstatement process described above.
    5. If verification codes or recovery attempts are failing
      • If verification attempts (codes, recovery forms) have hit rate limits or daily limits, wait at least 24 hours without further attempts before trying again, then:
        • Use the Sign-in Helper to diagnose sign-in issues.
        • If the account is locked, use the Request for Account Reinstatement link shown on the sign-in/lock page.

If, after confirming the subscription status and following the lock/unlock steps, access is still not restored, contact Microsoft Support directly (using any working Microsoft account if necessary) and provide the existing request number so they can review the case.
