Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
For a new Outlook.com email address that was interrupted during setup and now fails recovery, the only supported path is to use the standard Microsoft account recovery and support options. Because the account is new and has no history, it may be difficult or impossible to recover if the security information (phone, alternate email, etc.) was not fully set up or is not accessible.
Use these steps:
- Try standard account recovery
- Go to the Microsoft account recovery page at
https://account.live.com/acsr(from the context) and choose the option for a forgotten password. - Enter the Outlook.com email address that was being created and follow the prompts.
- If two-step verification or security codes are requested, use any phone number, alternate email, or authenticator app that was added during setup.
- If none of the listed options work, choose the option similar to “I don’t have any of these” and complete the recovery form with as much accurate information as possible.
- Go to the Microsoft account recovery page at
- If codes are not received or the form keeps failing
- Try again in a different browser or in InPrivate/Incognito mode.
- Clear browser data and retry.
- If possible, try from a different device or network (for example, a mobile network instead of home Wi‑Fi).
- If recovery still fails
- For consumer Outlook.com/Microsoft accounts, support cannot manually bypass security or complete setup without successful verification.
- If the account cannot be recovered because there is no usable security information or history, the practical option is to create a new Outlook.com address and carefully complete setup in one session, including:
- Adding a strong password.
- Adding at least one phone number and one alternate email as security info.
- Contacting Microsoft support
- Sign in with any working Microsoft account (if necessary, create a new one) and go to the Microsoft Support contact entry point from the context.
- Choose the path for Microsoft account & billing → password reset or account recovery, and use chat or callback if offered in the region.
If the partially created account cannot be verified through the automated recovery form and security info, support will not be able to grant access; a new account will be required.
