How to update Word

On iPad, Word updates through the App Store, not from inside the app.

To update Word on iPad:

1. Open the App Store app.
2. Tap your profile icon (top right).
3. Scroll down to Available Updates.
4. If Microsoft Word appears, tap Update next to it.
5. If it does not appear, swipe down on the page to refresh, or tap Update All if available.

If Read Aloud is still having problems after updating:

1. Make sure the iPad is online, because Read Aloud can use online services and supports multiple languages when online.
2. Close Word completely (swipe it away from the app switcher) and reopen it.
3. Confirm you are signed in with the Microsoft 365 account used for Word.

To use Read Aloud in Word for iPad after updating:

1. Tap the menu icon at the top.
2. Tap Read Aloud.
3. Use Play/Pause, Previous/Next, and Stop (x) to control reading.
4. Tap the gear icon in the Read Aloud controls to adjust reading speed.

If you prefer more reading options, Immersive Reader in Word for iPad also includes Read Aloud, voice selection, and reading speed controls:

1. In Word, select View > Immersive Reader.
2. Select Read Aloud.
3. Use the Settings icon to change Reading speed and Voice Selection.
