Hi, I was trying to create a rack diagram using visio 365 but I can not find a rack template to use.

Rack diagram templates are not listed as available templates in Visio for the web (Visio in Microsoft 365 or Plan 1) in the provided feature comparison and overview. The detailed infrastructure templates such as rack diagrams are part of the richer template set that is associated with the full Windows Visio app (Plan 2), not the simplified web version.

To create rack diagrams, use the desktop Visio app included with Visio Plan 2. Open Visio on Windows, select File > New, then browse templates (for example under Network) to access the richer template set. These advanced templates are not exposed in Visio for the web.

If only Visio in Microsoft 365 or Visio Plan 1 is available, rack-specific templates will not appear; only the web templates and shape sets listed in the Visio for the web overview can be used.

In Visio, the availability of specialized templates (such as rack or data center diagrams, and some advanced network stencils) depends on whether you are using Visio for the web and on your Visio license plan. In many cases, Visio for the web with Visio Plan 1 (or Visio in Microsoft 365) does not include the full set of advanced rack/data center templates. These templates are typically available with Visio Plan 2, which includes the Visio desktop application.

Therefore, if you are using Visio in a web browser with a Visio Plan 1 (or Visio in Microsoft 365) license, the rack template may not be available.

On the other hand, if you have Visio Plan 2, you can install and use the Visio desktop application, which typically provides more advanced templates and stencils, including rack and data center diagrams.

To install the Visio desktop app:

Sign in to https://portal.office.com
Go to Apps & devices
Locate Visio in the list of apps
Select Install to download and install the Visio desktop application

Once installed:

Open the Visio desktop app
Go to File > New and search for keywords such as “Rack,” “Server Rack,” or “Data Center.”
Select the appropriate rack-related template and start creating your diagram
