I haven't been able to log in to my email account for a week. It won't send codes to my phone but says to try a different method. I have tried every day and still nothing. I have twice sent reinstatement forms which come back saying not enough information but to keep trying! I have sent loads of information. Very confusing. Anyone with any ideas? I really need to get back into this account as it has loads of information I can't access anywhere else. So frustrating.

The account is being blocked by Microsoft’s automated security and the current recovery attempts are not providing enough verified information to pass the checks. Only the official self-service flows can restore access; support agents and forums cannot unlock the account or bypass verification.

    Use these steps, in order:

    1. Stop repeated attempts for a while
    • Too many verification or recovery attempts can trigger temporary blocks or rate limits.
    • Wait at least 24 hours (up to several days if needed) without trying to sign in, request codes, or submit more forms. Repeated attempts can reset the lockout timer.
    1. Try alternative verification methods and networks
    • When prompted to verify, use any other method on the account (alternate email, different phone, etc.). If one method is blocked, another may still work.
    • If you see messages like “Try another verification method,” follow the guidance:
      • Try a different verification method connected to the account (for example, alternate email instead of SMS).
      • Try from a different network (switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data, or use another Wi‑Fi network).
      • Avoid many repeated attempts in a short time.
    1. If codes are not arriving at all
    • Follow the guidance in “Troubleshoot Microsoft verification code issues”:
      • If you still have access to at least one security method, sign in and go to Advanced security options and add a new way to sign in or verify, then remove outdated methods.
      • If you know the password but have lost access to all security info, start sign-in, choose I don't have any of these, and follow the steps to replace security info. After replacement, there is a 30‑day wait before full access is restored.
    1. If you do not know the password or cannot use any security info
    • Use the Microsoft account recovery form as the only supported path:
      • Read the guidance in Help with the Microsoft account recovery form.
      • Then submit the request via the Recover account link.
    • When filling the form, provide as much accurate detail as possible (old passwords, folder names, recent subjects, contacts, etc.). If the response says “not enough information,” adjust the answers and try again the next day; there is a daily submission limit.
    1. If still blocked or codes never arrive
    • Use the sign-in helper tool for additional automated diagnostics and options.
    • If still stuck, go to Contact Microsoft Support, choose the appropriate product and “Get Help,” then “Contact Support” for technical support. Note that support agents cannot send verification codes, password reset links, or directly change account details; they can only guide through the existing flows.

If the recovery form continues to fail after multiple well‑spaced attempts with detailed, accurate information, and no verification method is available, the system may not be able to confirm ownership and the account may remain inaccessible.
