How do I get Microsoft Visio?

Based on my research, Azure for Students (the free Azure portal) currently does not include desktop Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Visio. It only provides access to selected Azure cloud services, which is why you are unable to see the full software catalog or download Visio, even after completing the student verification process.

To access Microsoft Visio, your school must provide a separate eligible license, typically through one of the following options:

• Microsoft 365 Education A3 or A5 license: If your institution has assigned this license to your account, you can download Visio by signing in at https://portal.office.com

• Azure Dev Tools for Teaching: Some schools offer Visio through this program instead of Azure for Students. Availability depends on your school or department’s enrollment.
• Visio for the Web (limited version): Available via https://www.office.com with a school account, though it has fewer features than the desktop version.

If none of the above are available through your institution, you may need to use a free trial or purchase a license individually.

You should reach out to your school’s IT department or Microsoft 365 administrator to verify whether your account includes a Microsoft 365 A3 or A5 license, and also to confirm if your school participates in Azure Dev Tools for Teaching. If Visio is included, they will need to assign the proper license to your account, as this cannot be enabled directly from Azure for Students.
