Digital product keys and codes redeemed to a Microsoft account cannot be “un‑redeemed” or moved to a different account or turned back into a reusable code. Once redeemed, the license is tied to that Microsoft account.
For returns or refunds, only certain purchases are eligible:
- Physical devices and packaged software (for example, a boxed game) may be returnable if they were bought directly from Microsoft. To check and request a return:
- Go to the Order history page of the Microsoft account used to make the purchase: Open Order history.
- Find the item and select Request a return if the option is available.
- Follow the on‑screen steps. If Request a return is not shown or online returns are not available in the region, contact Sales support using the link in the article.
- For digital apps and games purchased from Microsoft Store, a refund can sometimes be requested:
- Go to the Xbox support page to Request a refund for digital games and sign in.
- Select the relevant game and choose Request a refund, provide a reason, then submit.
If the game was a digital code bought from a third‑party retailer and already redeemed, the retailer’s return policy applies; in that case the retailer must be contacted, as Microsoft cannot generally refund or exchange third‑party gift codes once redeemed.
Whether the game can be played on Xbox Series S depends on the specific title and version. If it is a digital Xbox Series X|S game tied to the Microsoft account, and the account is used on a Series S console, it should normally be available if the game supports Series S. If it is a physical Xbox Series X disc, it cannot be used on a Series S (which has no disc drive), and only the retailer’s or Microsoft’s device/software return policy would apply if eligible.
