Use the following steps to restore Copilot in Outlook:
- Confirm the correct account and license
- In Outlook, go to File > Account.
- Check that the primary account shown is the one that has a Copilot license (for home users: Microsoft 365 Personal/Family or Copilot Pro; for business users: Microsoft 365 Business Basic/Standard/Premium, E3, E5, F1, or F3 plus Microsoft 365 Copilot).
- If signed in with multiple accounts (for example, both personal and work/school), sign out the non‑Copilot account or switch the primary account to the one with Copilot.
- Refresh the Copilot license
- In any Microsoft 365 app (including Outlook), go to File > Account.
- Select Update License.
- Close Outlook and all other Microsoft 365 apps, then reopen Outlook and try Copilot again.
- Check for known license validation issues (web Outlook)
- If using Outlook on the web and Copilot just says “try again,” refresh the browser page.
- Ensure third‑party cookies are enabled; blocking them can prevent Copilot from validating the license. For more details, see the note under Web in the Copilot button article and the license‑validation article.
- Verify network and update status
- Make sure the device has internet connectivity that meets the network requirements mentioned in the troubleshooting article.
- Install the latest Office updates, then restart Outlook.
- If Copilot is still missing or failing
- Follow the steps in How to find and enable missing Copilot button in Microsoft 365 apps to ensure Copilot is enabled and the app is on a supported build.
- If managed by an organization, ask the Microsoft 365 admin to confirm that:
- A Copilot‑supported license is assigned.
- Copilot is not blocked by organizational policies or privacy settings.
If the problem persists after these steps, contact Microsoft support, as the issue may be a known product issue being actively worked on.
