Help! Visio - Org chart will not print the right size

I have changed every single possible setting page set up in Visio. The org chart will print too small or it will print over 42 pages. I am using a simple landscape 8.5 x11 page set up. I have decreased drawing size, have fit page to 1 sheet, I have tried all the things.

From your description, you are trying to print a Visio org chart on a simple 8.5 × 11 landscape page, but the output either becomes very small or tiles across about 42 pages even after adjusting Page Setup and selecting Fit to 1 sheet.

This behavior usually occurs because Visio treats the drawing page size and the printer paper size as two separate settings, so they can become mismatched even when the page looks correct on screen. Moreover, if the diagram’s printable extents include extra whitespace or any object sitting outside the main chart boundary, Visio may either shrink the entire page to force everything onto one sheet or tile the output across multiple pages.

To help you get a consistent, single page print on Letter landscape, please follow these steps in order.

1/ Reset the drawing scale first

This is the most commonly missed step.

Go to Design tab > Page Setup (click the small arrow in the corner)
Click the Drawing Scale tab
Set it to No Scale (1:1)
Click OK

2/ Align the drawing page size with the printer paper size

Open the org chart page in Visio, then go to Design and open Page Setup.
On the Print Setup tab, set Printer paper to Letter 8.5 × 11 and confirm Landscape.

Next, on the Page Size tab, set the Drawing page to the same Letter size so the drawing page and printer paper match.
Review the preview thumbnail in Page Setup; if the drawing page is larger than the printer paper, Visio will tile the print across multiple pages.

3/ Fit the diagram to the page (the right way)

Don't use File > Print's "fit to page", instead:

Select all shapes (Ctrl+A)
Go to Design tab > click Auto Size (turns it off if it was on)
Then go to View tab > Fit Page or press Ctrl+Shift+W to see your full diagram
Now go to Design > Re-Layout Page if needed

4/ Set print scaling from Print Setup and validate in Print Preview

Go to File, then Print, and use the preview pane to confirm the layout before printing.
Select Page Setup from the Print screen, then open the Print Setup tab.
Under Print zoom, choose Fit to, then set 1 sheet across and 1 sheet down to keep the org chart on a single page. Reduce or enlarge a drawing when you print it - Microsoft Support
If the result still appears too small, switch from Fit to to Adjust to and test a fixed percentage while watching the preview, because fixed scaling prevents automatic over shrinking when extents are larger than expected. Printing and print preview in Visio - Microsoft Support

5/ Use a printable PDF path when printer drivers apply their own scaling

From File, go to Print and check the preview first, since Visio combines printing and preview in the same window and lets you verify page breaks and zoom.
If the preview still shows unexpected tiling, print using a PDF workflow, then print from the PDF viewer where you can control paper size and scaling more precisely.

6/ If nothing above works:

Select All (Ctrl+A)
Copy (Ctrl+C)
Open a brand new blank Visio file (Letter, Landscape)
Paste: Visio will ask how to handle the page size, choose to keep current page
Then go to Design > Auto Size > off
Manually drag/resize shapes to fit within the single page boundary (the blue dashed line)

Use the Page Setup and Print Setup controls to make the drawing page and printer paper match, then control scaling from one place only.

Open the Page Setup dialog
- On the Design tab, in the Page Setup group, click the Page Setup Dialog Box Launcher.
Make the drawing page match a single letter page
- In Page Setup, go to the Page Size tab.
- Choose a standard page size that matches letter landscape, or select Same as printer paper size so the drawing page will be exactly 8.5" x 11" in landscape.
Set the printer paper correctly
- In the same Page Setup dialog, go to the Print Setup tab.
- Under Printer paper, set:
  - Paper size to Letter (8.5" x 11").
  - Paper orientation to Landscape.
- Click Setup if needed to confirm printer, paper source, and margins.
Fit the drawing to a single page (if the drawing is larger)
- On the Design tab, in the Page Setup group, click Size.
- Click Fit to Drawing.
- This resizes the drawing page to fit the shapes with only the page margins as white space. If Auto Size is on, this command turns it off so the page stops expanding and creating many sheets.
Control print scaling
- Still in Page Setup → Print Setup tab, under Print zoom:
  - Either use Adjust to (for example 100%) to print at actual size, or
  - Use Fit to and set 1 sheet across and 1 sheet down to force the drawing to print on a single page.
- Avoid mixing both methods at once; use one scaling method so Visio does not tile across many pages.
Check margins if the drawing still looks too small
- In Page Setup → Print Setup tab, click Setup and review margins.
- Large margins reduce usable space and can make the drawing appear small when fitted.
Preview before printing
- Use print preview (for example via File → Print) to confirm that the drawing fills one landscape 8.5" x 11" page and is not tiled over multiple pages.

If the page still comes out very small, the drawing content may be much larger than letter size; in that case, keep Page Size set to Same as printer paper size, then use Fit to Drawing and Fit to 1 sheet across by 1 sheet down so Visio scales the content to that single page.
