Copilot is tied to the account and license that are signed into Excel, not to the device. In this scenario, Excel is signed in with a personal Gmail-based Microsoft account on a Microsoft 365 Family subscription, but the Copilot subscription was purchased for a different account ([******@polite.edu.sg]). That’s why Copilot does not appear in desktop Excel.
To use Copilot in desktop Excel:
- Make sure the signed-in account in Excel is the one that actually has the Copilot license (the [******@polite.edu.sg] account).
- Open Excel on the desktop.
- Go to File > Account.
- Under User Information, sign out of the current account if it does not have Copilot.
- Select Sign in and sign in with the [******@polite.edu.sg] account that has the Copilot subscription.
- Confirm that the account you sign in with is eligible for Copilot:
- For home use, the account must have Microsoft 365 Personal or Family, or Copilot Pro.
- For business use, the account must have a supported Microsoft 365 business/enterprise subscription plus Microsoft 365 Copilot.
- Refresh the license in Excel after signing in with the correct account:
- In Excel, go to File > Account.
- Select Update License.
- Close Excel and any other Microsoft 365 apps, then reopen Excel.
- Ensure the desktop apps are up to date so Copilot features can appear:
- In Excel, go to File > Account > Update Options and install Office updates as described in the documentation.
If Copilot still does not appear after these steps, verify with the Microsoft 365 admin (if [******@polite.edu.sg] is a work/school account) that the account is assigned a Copilot license and that Copilot is not blocked by organizational policy.
