After the latest software update (current versions: One UI version: 8.0, Android version: 16), the OneNote app no longer opens.

Perform the following steps on the Android phone to restore OneNote functionality after the OS/One UI update:

Update OneNote from the Play Store
- Open Play Store.
- Tap the menu button (top left) → My apps & games.
- Find OneNote and tap Update if available.
  This ensures compatibility with the latest Android/One UI version.
Force stop and relaunch OneNote
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Manager → OneNote.
- Tap Force Stop.
- Reopen OneNote from the app drawer.
Check for account/sign-in issues
If OneNote opens but does not sync or shows an account error (for example, messages like “To sync this notebook, sign in to OneNote” or Account Error – Action Required):
- In Android Settings → Accounts, verify the account used with OneNote (phone-number-based accounts may require an email).
- When prompted in OneNote, tap Add Email and add a valid email address to continue syncing.
Reinstall OneNote (if it still does not open)
- Uninstall OneNote from the device.
- Open Play Store and install Microsoft OneNote for Android again using the official listing.
- Open OneNote and sign in with the Microsoft account used previously so notebooks can resync from the cloud.

If OneNote continues to fail to open even after updating and reinstalling, collect details (device model, exact error behavior) and report the issue via the OneNote for Android support channels or community forums so the product team can investigate.

Uninstall the OneNote app from your device, then restart your phone.
After the restart, open the Google Play Store and reinstall the OneNote app.

No, it does not work. I first noticed this on April 14. I tried to clear the cache, but it did not work. Clear data also did not work. I tried uninstalling and installing agaid then logging in, it works, but the next day it gets stuck again at loading the recent pages or logging in.

This is definitely happening. Not just OneNote but also Outlook, Word, the entire suite of products. I hope there is an investigation and fix in the works.

Confirm completely dead on S24, even after a fresh reinstall. I get the prompt to enable notifications, after that it just shows nothing but a purple book in middle and "Microsoft" at the bottom along with a small circle loading indicator, which spins forever. When l reopen the app, it shows the purple book and "Microsoft" without the loading indicator, and still sits there forever. No menu, or anything to interact with.

i tried this now the app is just stuck trying to load the homescreen, intiallly i had logged out to relog in for a fix but your trash products prefer crashing, so now i'm stuck. like what on earth did you do.

Same issue here. I've done everything, reinstalled the app, cleared the cache, etc, but OneNote wouldn't work; it always gets stuck at the welcome page.

Mines the same! Used to only be a freezing screen where the words I wrote were stuck to the screen but the screen still moves. Now its just stuck loading, like someone mentioned above, it used to get resolved my reinstalling or signing out then back in but is now completely stuck. :(

OneNote doesn't work on WIFI, if I switch to mobile data it works perfectly. To work on WI-FI I had to change the values for primary DNS and secondary DNS and the problem with the OneNote application was solved.

The app crashed after the update and just would not open. Uninstalled, cleared data, re-installed and signed back in. Sign in was very slow. Eventually signed back in and got to notebooks. That was Thursday last week. Opened the app on the tablet this morning and it lost my personal account and all notebooks are gone from the app. Work account is still there. Can't add the personal account it just spins forever. Will uninstall again to try and fix this but having to reinstall every few days is silly. Stop breaking the app.

Having the same issue. MS should roll the most recent update back.

You would think that an IT company would have a plan in place to recover when they screw the pooch.

But no....

All microsoft applications are having problems on my phone including onenote, teams, outlook, and onedrive etc this is more than frustrating.
