Legal Name Change

To update the legal name on a Microsoft Certification (MCID/Learn) profile, use the Microsoft Learn profile settings and, if needed, contact Credentials Support.

1. Sign in to the Microsoft Learn profile that is associated with the MCID.
2. Go to Settings in the profile.
3. Under Personal info, username, and URL, locate the Legal Name field.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the legal name.
   • The legal name must match the name on the government-issued ID that will be presented at exam time.
   • If an exam is already scheduled or taken, changing the legal name requires Microsoft support approval.
5. If the interface instructs to contact Certification Support or if the legal name cannot be changed directly, open a ticket with the Credentials Support team:
   • Go to Credentials Support using the link in the documentation.
   • Sign in with the same account used for the certification profile.
   • Submit a request describing that a legal name correction is needed for the certification profile/MCID and attach a clear image of a valid government-issued ID if requested.

Supporting documents:

• The documentation states that the Legal Name is used for identity verification and must match the government-issued ID. When support intervention is required (for example, after exam registration or when self-service change is blocked), support may request a copy of a government-issued ID to verify and approve the name change.

For cases where the legal name was entered incorrectly and blocked an exam (for example, duplicated or misspelled names), the recommended action is also to contact Credentials Support via the same channel.
