Core component of SQL Server for storing, processing, and securing data
Hi Akshay Hebbar,
Troubleshooting Steps for SQL Server 2019 Installation Issue
It looks like the SQL Server 2019 installer is detecting remnants of a previous SQL Server installation. This usually happens when uninstall didn’t fully remove all components. To fix this:
- Uninstall old SQL Server components via Control Panel → Programs and Features. Remove all entries related to SQL Server, SQL Server Management Studio, and SQL Native Client.
- Stop and delete leftover services in services.msc (e.g.,
SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER),SQL Server Agent). - Delete SQL Server folders from:
-
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server -
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server -
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft SQL Server
-
- Clean registry keys under:
-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQL Server(be careful to only remove SQL Server–related keys)
-
- If manual cleanup is tricky, use the SQL Server Installation Cleanup Tool or run the installer in Repair/Remove mode.
- After cleanup, rerun
setup.exeas Administrator and choose New SQL Server and installation.
Thanks,
Lakshmi.
