I need to refund a gifted game (Minecraft), that I did not want or mean to purchase but when I go to my order history there is no refund button and when i go to the support page, I am told that there was no recent purchase. The gifted game has 2-5 hours of time on it and I really need to refund it because I did not mean to make this purchase.

For a gifted digital game like Minecraft bought through Microsoft Store/Xbox, refunds are handled through the Xbox digital refund process or Microsoft Store support, not directly from Windows order history in some cases.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Try the Xbox digital refund form
      1. Go to the Xbox support page to Request a refund for digital games: https://support.xbox.com/help/subscriptions-billing/buy-games-apps/refund-orders
      2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to purchase and gift Minecraft.
      3. Select the Minecraft purchase (or the relevant item) and choose Request a refund.
      4. Provide the reason (accidental/unauthorized purchase, did not mean to buy, etc.) and select Next.
      5. Review the details and select Submit.
      6. Refund requests can take up to 72 hours to process. Status can be checked on the Refund status tab.
    2. If the purchase does not appear or online refund is not available
      1. Online returns/refunds are not available in all markets, and some items may not show the refund option.
      2. If the refund form or your Order history does not show the purchase or a refund option, contact Microsoft Store Sales support directly: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/help-with-microsoft-store-purchases-4f615f2a-6bbd-fd69-6695-ae213d63eef0
      3. Explain that this was an unintended gifted purchase, provide the order number if available, and ask them to review refund eligibility.
    3. If the charge is accidental or unauthorized
      1. For accidental or unauthorized purchases, use the same refund article for items bought from Microsoft: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/get-a-refund-for-apps-and-games-purchased-from-microsoft-store-81629012-aa4f-f48b-2394-8596f415072b
      2. If there is any concern that someone else used the account, follow the guidance in the “How do I cancel an unauthorized or accidental purchase?” section to secure the account.
    4. If the item is not in Order history
      1. If the item does not appear in Order history, it may have been purchased while not signed in or under a different account.
      2. Use the Guest Order Lookup if the purchase might have been made as a guest, or verify that the correct Microsoft account is being checked.

Refund approval is not guaranteed and depends on eligibility rules (time since purchase, usage, region, and policy), so the support and refund pages above are the authoritative path.
