Hi,

I am having issues accessing Project Professional 2019 to complete my business college course assignments. During the download, it does not prompt me to enter the product key, and once the download is complete, it does not open.

    Hi @Clyburn, Leanne,

I can understand how inconvenient this situation can be, especially when you need Project Professional 2019 to complete your business college coursework and the application does not open after downloading.

To clarify, Project Professional 2019 is a one‑time purchase product. In most cases, the product key is entered before installation, during the redemption process. Microsoft recommends redeeming the key at microsoft365.com/setup, which links the license to your Microsoft account. This redemption step only needs to be completed once.

To help resolve the issue, I recommend reviewing the steps below:

1/ Redeem the product key (if this has not been done already):

    • Go to microsoft365.com/setup (or office.com/setup)
    • Sign in with the Microsoft account you want the license associated with
    • Enter the 25‑character product key and complete the redemption process

If you’re not prompted to enter a key, it’s possible that the key has already been redeemed or was entered automatically. You can find more details in Microsoft’s article: Where to enter your Office product key.

2/ Install Project from the correct account page:

Once the key is redeemed, sign in using the same Microsoft account at: https://myapps.microsoft.com/ .

Under My Apps, look for Project Professional 2019 and install it from there.

If Project installs but still does not open, this is commonly caused by a partial or corrupted installation, or by conflicts with other Office applications. In that case, running a repair is usually the quickest supported solution.

    3/ Run an Online Repair:

As a next step, I recommend performing an Online Repair, which is more thorough than a Quick Repair.

To do this, please close all Office applications, then go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features) > Microsoft 365/Office > Modify > Online Repair.

After the repair completes, please restart your computer and try opening Project again. You can also refer to Microsoft’s official guidance here: Repair an Office application.

Lastly, since this software is required for a college course, it’s possible that your access is provided through your school. In many cases, educational or volume‑licensed editions are installed using a different method. If so, your college’s IT department would be best placed to advise on the correct installation process.

I hope these steps help get Project Professional 2019 working for you. Please let me know how it goes. If the issue continues, feel free to share how you obtained Project 2019 (for example, via a product key purchase, email receipt, or school portal), along with any error messages, or a screenshot, if available, so we can continue troubleshooting together.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I look forward to assisting you further.
