Swimlane actor name in the background of the swimlane.

Please may you consider offering the ability to show the swimlane actor name in the background of the swimlane?

This is needed when the process flow is long, and there are several swimlanes. As you scroll to the right, you can't see the swimlane names.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Many thanks

Visio does not provide an option to automatically repeat or display the swimlane (actor) name as a large background label across the full length of the lane when scrolling.

In current Visio cross-functional flowcharts, swimlane names are shown in the lane headers. For both Visio for the web and Visio on Windows, the documented customization options are:

    • Add or remove swimlanes and phases by dragging Swimlane or Separator shapes onto the diagram.
    • Resize, move, and delete swimlanes/phases.
    • Change the label text of the swimlane by clicking the placeholder text and typing.
    • On Windows, adjust label position and orientation using the Text Block tool and Rotate Lane Label on the Cross-functional Flowchart tab.

These capabilities allow editing and repositioning labels but do not include a feature to render the actor name as a persistent background watermark along the lane.

To request this enhancement, feedback can be submitted through the standard Microsoft feedback channels for Visio so the product team can consider adding a background-style swimlane label in future versions.

    Hi @Sally Hopper

Navigating long process flows in Visio can definitely be frustrating when you lose track of which swimlane you are looking at. I completely understand your request for a feature that displays the swimlane actor's name in the background, especially since scrolling to the right completely hides the lane headers and makes it difficult to read the chart.

After researching and testing this in my own environment, Visio currently does not have a built-in feature to display the swimlane or actor name in the background along the length of the lane. In cross-functional flowcharts, the name is strictly anchored to the lane header. Unfortunately, there are no current options to freeze the header, repeat the label, or create a background watermark for the actor's name as you scroll horizontally.

I truly appreciate you taking the time to share this idea, as practical insights from advanced users like you are exactly what helps improve the product. I highly encourage you to submit these specific details through the official Microsoft Feedback Portal.
