Using Microsoft Teams on macOS, including installation, features, and compatibility
Use the following steps on macOS to troubleshoot Teams not loading, crashing, or showing a blank screen.
- Fully quit Teams
- Right-click the Teams icon in the Dock and select Quit, or press Command (⌘)+Q.
- Clear the Teams cache (new Teams for macOS) Since the cache was already cleared once, ensure it was done using the current method for new Teams:
- Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal.
- Run these commands (press Return after each):
rm -rf ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2 - Restart Teams and sign in again.
If using classic Teams instead of new Teams, clear this folder instead:
- Quit Teams.
- In Terminal, run:
rm -r ~/Library/Application\ Support/Microsoft/Teams - Restart Teams.
- Check network access to Teams If Teams opens a blank window and then disappears or never loads content, network configuration may be blocking Teams endpoints. An admin should:
- Review firewall/proxy settings and ensure all Teams endpoints are allowed.
- Ensure Teams-related network requests are not being filtered or timed out.
- Verify OS support If the macOS version is not supported, Teams can fail to launch correctly. Confirm the device is on a macOS version supported by the Teams client. If not, update macOS to a supported version.
- If the issue persists If Teams still crashes or only shows a blank screen after cache clear, network verification, and OS check, an admin should:
- Use the Teams client health dashboard (when available) to see if the issue is categorized as a Launch failure and review the Insight column for the affected device.
- If no resolution works, contact Microsoft Support with details of the crash behavior.
