When deploying an Anthropic model via Foundry you are prompted to review the data use policy of Anthropic, but it is not clear which terms apply. Do the Foundry offerings conform to ZDR implementation per Anthropic's terms?

Anthropic Claude models deployed through Azure AI Foundry are not covered under Azure OpenAI Zero Data Retention (ZDR). These models are offered as third‑party marketplace services and follow a different data‑processing model.

Prompt and response data sent to Claude models is processed by Anthropic as the data processor. Azure OpenAI ZDR and modified logging controls apply only to Azure OpenAI resources and do not extend to Anthropic models.

The Anthropic data use policy is shown during deployment because the Claude model establishes a direct third‑party data‑processing relationship with Anthropic.

Azure AI Foundry provides the deployment interface, access control, and billing integration, while model inference (prompt and response processing) is performed by Anthropic‑hosted services. As a result, Anthropic’s terms govern how inference data is handled.

For Claude models in Foundry, Anthropic governs prompt and response data processing, including retention behavior and any zero‑retention commitments defined in Anthropic terms.

Azure AI Foundry governs subscription management, billing, authentication, API endpoint infrastructure, and usage or transaction metadata, which may be shared with the model publisher as part of marketplace operations.

Available service guidance indicates that, for Anthropic Claude models, prompts and generated outputs may be handled across multiple locations to support operational needs such as reliability, performance optimization, and capacity management. As part of this design, processing may occur outside the initially selected region.

Thank you Karnam, this helps clear up the confusion. Unfortunately the Anthropic ZDR agreement is not available for services via Foundry with Anthropic as it is only available for Enterprise customers.
