Redeem Gift Card

Try these steps in order:

1. Confirm how the card must be redeemed
   • For an Xbox/Microsoft gift card (adds money to the Microsoft account): redeem it to the Microsoft account balance at the official redeem site: Redeem Code.
   • For a subscription or specific product (for example, Xbox Game Pass, a game, or Microsoft 365), make sure it is being redeemed in the correct place (Xbox/Microsoft Store vs. Office vs. Windows activation). The card itself usually states where to redeem it.
2. Redeem the card online instead of on the console
   • Go to https://redeem.microsoft.com.
   • Sign in with the correct personal Microsoft account (the one used on the Xbox).
   • Carefully enter the 25‑character code and submit.
   • If it still shows “code not valid,” do not keep retrying many times in a row, as repeated failures do not fix an invalid code.
3. Check basic conditions
   • Ensure the card is for the correct region/country and currency for the Microsoft account.
   • Ensure the protective strip on the back was fully and cleanly scratched off and all characters are legible.
4. If the code still shows as invalid
   • For a standard Microsoft/Xbox gift card or download token, Microsoft Support must check the code on their side. Retailers can only help before the card is successfully redeemed; once they say they cannot assist further, the next step is Microsoft Customer Support.
   • Have ready: a clear photo of the back of the card (code visible), the purchase receipt, and the error message text.
5. If the card is a Microsoft 365/Office or Windows code
   • Microsoft 365/Office: redeem at https://setup.office.com by signing in and entering the 25‑character product key.
   • Windows activation code: on the Windows PC, go to Settings > Activation > Change product key and enter the code.

If none of the above works and the retailer refuses to help, the only remaining path is to open a case with Microsoft Customer Support and provide the card details and receipt so they can investigate whether the code was never activated, already redeemed, or misprinted.
