Transferring certifications between Learn profiles is only possible if there is still access to at least one login account on the profile that currently holds the certifications. If the work account is no longer accessible and no personal account was added to that Learn profile before access was lost, the certifications and profile data cannot be moved.
Key points from the documented behavior:
- Access to a Learn profile and its credentials requires the ability to sign in with at least one valid login account on that profile.
- If access to a work or school login account is lost and no alternate account was added, this results in loss of access to the profile and its data.
- Microsoft cannot assist with recovery of work or school accounts; account recovery must be handled by the organization’s IT administrator.
- Certification data cannot be transferred or restored from a Learn profile that cannot be accessed.
The only supported way to consolidate certifications is:
- Sign in to the Learn profile that currently holds the certifications.
- Add another login account (for example, a personal Microsoft account) under Settings → Login account management.
- This links/merges data so that the certifications become available when signing in with the added account.
In the described scenario, because the work account is inactive and cannot be used to sign in, and if no personal account was added to that Learn profile beforehand, there is no supported path to transfer those certifications to a personal account. The only potential remedy would be to work with the former employer’s IT admin to temporarily restore access to the work account, sign in to the Learn profile, and then add a personal account as an additional login. If that is not possible, the certifications on that profile cannot be moved.
