Error 0x80159611 when enabling Developer Mode in Windows indicates a failure while turning on the developer features. Use the following steps to work around it and ensure Developer Mode is properly enabled.
- Enable Developer Mode from the main Settings page
- Open Settings.
- Go to System > Advanced (or search for Advanced in Settings).
- Scroll to the For developers section.
- Toggle Developer Mode on.
- When the disclaimer dialog appears, select Yes and wait for the “adding features” process to complete.
- If enabling via a hidden or secondary menu fails Always prefer the main System > Advanced > For developers page instead of hidden or experimental menus. Visual Studio and other tools also expose a shortcut that opens this same page; if a dialog appears in Visual Studio saying Developer Mode is required, select settings for developers to open the correct Settings page and enable it there.
- Check for policy or admin restrictions
Developer Mode requires administrator access and can be disabled by organizational policy:
- Sign in with an administrator account.
- If the device is managed by an organization, contact the administrator to confirm that Developer Mode is not blocked by policy.
- For game or app deployment errors If the error appears while installing or launching a packaged app or game (for example, when seeing deployment errors like 0x80073CFF), ensure Developer Mode is enabled using the steps above, then retry the deployment or installation.
If the error persists even on the main For developers page with admin rights and no organizational policy, collect the exact steps and environment details and open a support ticket so the issue can be investigated further.
