Access to a Copilot-created PowerPoint file is typically denied for one of these reasons:
- Insufficient permissions on the file
The file may have restricted permissions (for example, via Information Rights Management or sensitivity labels). If the account being used is not granted rights to the file, access is denied. In this case, the file owner or admin must grant appropriate rights. When opening a rights‑managed file, Office contacts a licensing server to verify credentials and download a use license. If the account does not have rights, access is blocked. - Using the wrong account
If the presentation is stored in a work or school location (SharePoint, OneDrive for Business) but being accessed with a personal Microsoft account, or vice versa, the account may not have permission to open it. Sign in with the work or school account that owns or was granted access to the file. - Information protection policy not supported by the Office version
Some protection settings (for example, sensitivity labels with dynamic watermarking) require a minimum Office version. If the installed Office version does not support the policy applied to the file, access can be denied with an error indicating the Office version is not supported. Updating Office to the latest version or opening the file in Office for the web can resolve this.
To troubleshoot:
- Confirm the correct account is signed in (work/school vs personal) and has been granted access to the location where the file is stored.
- If the file is rights‑managed, open it and use View Permissions in the Message Bar or status bar to see what actions are allowed. If access is denied, contact the file owner or admin to grant rights.
- If an error mentions the Office version not supporting the protection policy, update Office to the latest version or try opening the file in Office for the web.
