Most of my folders have disappeared on Outlook. If I search for an email, I can find it and it shows what folder it is in but I don’t see it

Hi, are you using Classic Outlook on Windows and did this start after a restart or update?

This usually happens when the Folder Pane is minimized or the view is reset. Open Outlook, go to View, then Folder Pane, and select Normal. If folders still do not show, go to View, then Reset View. Also check if you are in a filtered view by selecting View, then Change View, and choose IMAP Messages or Compact. If using an IMAP account, expand the account name and click More under the folder list, then choose Query to refresh the folder subscription list.

Most likely the folders are still in the mailbox but are hidden or no longer shown in Favorites.

Try these checks and fixes in Outlook for Windows (classic):

    1. Check if the folders are just missing from Favorites
      • In the Folder Pane, scroll down to the full folder list (below Favorites).
      • Locate one of the folders that appears in search results.
      • Right‑click that folder and select Show in Favorites.
      • Repeat for other important folders.
    2. Recreate the Unread Mail (or other) Search Folder in Favorites If what is missing is the Unread Mail view or another Search Folder:
      1. In the Folder Pane, right‑click Search Folders.
      2. Select New Search Folder.
      3. In the New Search Folder window, select Unread mail (or the folder type needed), then select OK.
      4. Under Search Folders, right‑click Unread mail and select Show in Favorites.
    3. If a default folder is completely missing (not visible anywhere)
      • Some default folders can disappear if their PR_ATTR_HIDDEN property is set to True, which hides them from Outlook and Outlook on the web.
      • This property must be corrected with advanced tools (for example, by an administrator or support using MAPI tools) so the folder is no longer hidden.

If the folders still do not appear in the full folder list (not just Favorites), contact support so they can check whether the folders are marked hidden (PR_ATTR_HIDDEN = True) and unhide them.
