Narada Notification Service was installed in our tenant on the 22nd of March 2026.

But not by us.

We have been able to prove it is Microsoft product.

It has the Cloud Application Administrator role.

Can anyone tell me what triggered this to be installed?

This is expected behavior and not something that was manually installed.

Narada Notification Service is a Microsoft-owned service principal used for backend notification and event handling across Entra ID and related Microsoft 365 services. It supports internal communication (for example, service alerts, signals, or feature-related events).

These types of service principals can be created automatically when Microsoft rolls out or updates a feature in the tenant. There isn’t always a clear, user-driven trigger.

The Cloud Application Administrator role is assigned so the service can manage app registrations or related objects required for its operation. This is normal for certain Microsoft first-party services.

As long as the application shows Publisher = Microsoft in Enterprise Applications, it’s safe and should be left as is. Removing or modifying it could impact dependent functionality.

If you want to verify what led to its creation, check the audit logs around March 22 for a “Add service principal” event and review the preceding activity.

This is expected, and your earlier understanding is correct.

Narada Notification Service is a Microsoft-owned service principal used internally within Microsoft Entra ID for notifications and event handling between services. It isn’t something that gets installed through a tenant action.

There’s no single trigger from your side. These objects are created automatically when Microsoft rolls out or updates backend features. Since deployments are gradual, it can appear in long-standing tenants without any recent changes made by admins.

The Cloud Application Administrator role is required for it to manage app-related objects as part of its operation. This is normal for Microsoft first-party services.

If you check the audit logs around March 22, you should see an “Add service principal” event with Microsoft listed as the initiator.

No action is needed unless you see anything unusual (for example, a non-Microsoft publisher).
