Unable to delete a External Entra ID from my subscription.

When I'm on the Delete page inside of the Entra tenant, Enterprise Applications says to delete enterprise applications but there are none left.

I've spent about 2 hours trying to find unique ways to find hidden enterprise applications, but it just doesn't work.

If you are unable to delete an external Microsoft Entra ID tenant from your subscription, it may be due to several prerequisites that must be met before deletion can occur. Here are some common checks you should perform:

Ensure that there are no users in the external tenant except for the Global Administrator who is attempting to delete the tenant. Any other users must be removed first.

Confirm that there are no applications associated with the tenant. This includes ensuring that all applications listed under App registrations in the All applications section have been deleted.

If there is an active or canceled Azure subscription associated with the Microsoft Entra tenant, you cannot delete the tenant until the subscription is deleted. After canceling a subscription, you must wait for a specific period before the deletion option becomes available.

Thank you for the response, Sunoj. I've confirmed that only my admin user (me) is in the Users list. There are no app registrations in All applications. There are no active or cancelled subscriptions in the tenant. It still shows the same issue. There are no enterprise applications in my tenant outside of the Microsoft-installed ones.

Thank you for confirming the checks and for sharing the screenshot. Based on what you’ve described and what’s visible in the Delete tenant page, this is a known limitation with Microsoft Entra External ID tenants.

Even when the Enterprise applications blade shows no applications, External ID tenants can still have hidden, system‑created service principals (created automatically by Microsoft for External ID/CIAM scenarios). These do not appear in Enterprise Applications, cannot be viewed or deleted from the portal, and still block tenant deletion, which is why the Enterprise applications check remains in a failed state.

Unfortunately, there is no self‑service way to remove these backend applications using the portal, PowerShell, or Microsoft Graph.

I am having the same issue. And based on all my searching for the past month many others are too. Seems like there's obviously an issue that Microsoft is refusing to fix.
