Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Since the password was changed on March 8, Outlook on the PC and iPhone must be updated with the new sign-in information, and the account connection may also need repair.
Follow these steps on the Windows PC (classic Outlook):
- Confirm the account password
- Make sure the new password works by signing in to the email account on its website (for example, Outlook.com or the provider’s webmail page).
- If the password is forgotten or not working, reset it using the steps in Reset a forgotten Microsoft account password.
- Update the password in classic Outlook
- If the password was changed on the website, it must also be changed in classic Outlook.
- Open Outlook on Windows.
- Go to the account settings for the email account and update the password to match the new one used on the website.
- Repair the Outlook profile connection
- If updating the password does not restore send/receive, repair the Outlook profile.
- A profile controls how Outlook connects to the account and stores settings.
- Use the steps in Fix your Outlook email connection by repairing your profile to repair the existing profile or create a new one, then test sending and receiving.
- Start Outlook in Safe Mode to rule out add-ins
- Some add-ins can prevent sending or receiving mail.
- Press the Windows key, type
outlook.exe /safe, and press Enter. - If email works in Safe Mode, create a new Outlook profile as described in Create an Outlook profile and use that profile going forward.
- Repair the Outlook program if needed
- If Outlook still cannot send or receive, repair the Office/Outlook installation using the steps in Repair an Office application.
On the iPhone, remove and re-add the email account so it prompts for the new password, or update the password in the mail account settings if the app allows it.
If these steps do not resolve the issue or if direct assistance is preferred, use the official Microsoft support options listed in the references (Outlook.com support, Account & Billing Help, or general Microsoft support entry point) to reach a support agent again. Remote assistance can be provided only through official Microsoft support channels, not through this forum.
