Why get rid of the ability to lock tabs in workspaces?

Not sure why getting rid of the lock tab function would be an improvement?

I used it to organize multiple different tabs to create a "shortcut" function to navigate through different windows with ease, now everything is a mess and very difficult to navigate now.

Are there any other options? Or a possibility to bring that function back?

This is a HUGE downgrade. I used the lock tab feature daily in my workgroups. It doesn't make any sense at all to remove this feature.

I strongly agree this feature should be brought back ... this was my favorite feature of using Edge ... but as there appears to be nothing posted about bringing this back I'll go back to Chrome where more capabilities to "save/hold tabs" like this exist (managing favorite folders is what I'm likely to go back to - pinned tabs won't scale and grouped tabs will change).

In the new version of Microsoft Edge Workspaces, the lock tab feature is no longer available. The updated Workspaces experience is designed for individual use and specifically lists “Locking tabs is not supported” as a change from the previous version, where locked tabs were supported.

The key differences are:

Previous Edge Workspaces: supported sharing, collaboration, and locking tabs.
New Edge Workspaces: focused on individual use, does not support sharing, collaboration, inviting others, or locking tabs, and no longer relies on OneDrive storage.

Because of this design change, there is currently no built‑in replacement for the old lock tab behavior inside the new Workspaces. The available guidance for issues or feature gaps is to submit feedback directly in Edge so it can be considered for future updates. For Workspaces specifically, feedback can be sent from the Edge Workspaces menu using the satisfaction controls (“Like”/“Dislike”) that are shown with the “Are you satisfied with Workspaces?” question.

There is no documented way in the provided materials to re‑enable or restore tab locking in the new Workspaces experience.

I truly believe that this function should be restored, the removal of this function has had a noticeable impact on daily productivity. It was essential for navigating a large number of open tabs efficiently, and without it, completing work tasks has become more confusing and frustrating. Restoring this functionality would significantly reduce stress, simplify navigation, and support a smoother, more efficient workday.

Never going to recommend Edge to anyone again, Workspaces are now officially useless, no sharing and no tab locking, the only two features that made workspaces a thing! Idiots !!

Totally agree, what in the world were they thinking. I used to love Workspaces but now it's completely worthless. Jumping into AI tools which are helping me migrate back to Chrome (better use of saved favorites and folders there although nothing like Workspaces) ... completely bummed by Microsoft's decision here.
