For Xbox Series S installation issues where apps stay at 0%, treat it as a general Store/game install problem and work through these checks and resets:

    1. Check network and install source
    • Error 0x87e00017 in similar scenarios indicates the install source can’t be reached or is partially corrupted. Even without an error shown, the same root cause (unreachable or corrupted content) can apply.
    • Fully power cycle network equipment (router/modem) and the console:
      • Hold the Xbox power button for 10 seconds until it turns off.
      • Unplug the power cable for 30–60 seconds, then plug back in and restart.
    • If possible, test on a different network (mobile hotspot or another Wi‑Fi) to rule out routing/ISP issues.
    1. Check Xbox “Ready to install” and auto‑update settings
    • On the console, go to My games & apps > Ready to install and see if the apps are queued or partially installed.
    • Ensure the console is set as the home Xbox and that automatic updates are enabled so queued installs can resume properly:
      • Settings > System > Updates & downloads > enable Keep my games & apps up to date.
    1. Cancel and re‑queue the problematic apps
    • In My games & apps, highlight the stuck app.
    • Cancel the installation.
    • Re‑queue it from the Store.
    • If other apps install normally but the same ones always hang at 0%, the local install state for those titles may be corrupted.
    1. Clear corrupted installs using the deployment tools (for dev/test titles) If these are development or test builds installed via the Game Development Kit tools on PC and then deployed, a partially successful deployment can leave corrupted entries and cause “install source cannot be reached” behavior:
    • On the PC used for development, run:
      1. wdapp list to list installed games.
      2. For any broken entries, run wdapp uninstall <pfn> to remove them.
      3. Rebuild/redeploy the game or app and try again.
    1. Check for licensing / dev‑mode issues
    • If installing dev‑mode or Insider‑related content and seeing deployment failures with license‑related codes (for example 0x80073CFF in similar PC scenarios), ensure the console is correctly enrolled in the Insider/dev program and that the account being used has the required permissions.
    1. If nothing helps
    • If all apps (including standard Store apps like YouTube) intermittently hang at 0% and only start after long delays, and network and queue cleanup do not help, treat it as a deeper Store/OS issue on the console and perform a full power cycle and, if needed, a console reset (keeping games and apps) from the Xbox settings.
