Access to Microsoft Learn profiles and certifications depends entirely on being able to sign in with at least one valid login account associated with that profile.
For work or school (institutional) accounts:
- If access to the institutional email/work or school account is lost and no alternate personal Microsoft account was added to the Learn profile beforehand, this results in a permanent loss of access to the Learn profile and all data it contains, including certifications.
- Microsoft cannot assist with recovery of work or school accounts. Recovery must be handled by the institution’s IT administrator.
For personal Microsoft accounts:
- If a personal Microsoft account was used and access is lost (for example, password issues), recovery is only possible through the self-service Microsoft account recovery options such as:
- If these self-service options fail, Microsoft Credentials Support cannot recover the personal account or transfer/restore the contents of a Learn profile that cannot be accessed.
Transferring certifications to another email:
- Certifications and Learn profile data cannot be moved or transferred if the original login account (work/school or personal) is no longer accessible and no alternate account was previously added.
- The only way to preserve access is to add a personal Microsoft account to the Learn profile while access to the original account is still available.
Given that the institutional email has already been deactivated and access to that account is lost, the only potential path is to work with the institution’s IT to see if they can temporarily restore the work/school account so that:
- Sign-in to the Learn profile can be performed, and
- A personal Microsoft account can be added to the profile for future access.
If the institution cannot restore the account, the certifications in that profile cannot be recovered or transferred.
