Publisher 2021 with Office 2024

Running Publisher 2021 and Office 2024 together on the same machine is not supported when they use conflicting installation technologies.

Office 2024 is installed using Click-to-Run. Publisher 2021, if it is a volume-licensed product, is typically installed using Windows Installer (MSI). Microsoft does not support having the same version generation of Office products (for example, Office 2024 apps and Office 2024/2021-family apps) installed side-by-side when one uses Click-to-Run and the other uses MSI on the same computer. When this incompatibility is detected, the installer prompts to uninstall the other Office product.

To resolve this, there are only supported choices:

1. Keep Office 2024 (Click-to-Run) and do not install Publisher 2021 MSI.
2. Uninstall the MSI-based Office/Publisher product and then install only the Click-to-Run Office suite intended for that machine.

If Publisher is required, it must be part of, or compatible with, the same Click-to-Run generation and configuration as the installed Office 2024 suite. Mixing MSI-based Publisher 2021 with Click-to-Run Office 2024 on the same device is not supported.
