So after a recent update specifically the KBArticleID "KB5077241", an application that relies on crystal reports to generate reports such as in excel and what not has been crashing, in fact even the crystal reports itselfs has been crashing. I tried deleting the update which worked for a while but then it came back later, so this time i deleted and hid it and now it seems to just be worse. What possible solution would you have to help me with this. I run various commands to hide and delete the particular update but doesnt seem to work this time.

KB5077241 is causing application instability similar to other Windows updates that have broken application components in the past. When an update repeatedly reinstalls or hiding/removing it makes stability worse, the supported approach is to repair the affected components and, if needed, repair or reset Windows rather than continually blocking the update.

    Use the following sequence:

    1. Repair system files Run System File Checker again to ensure no core files are corrupted by repeated install/uninstall cycles:
    1. Open an elevated Command Prompt (Run as administrator).
    2. Run:
         sfc /scannow

    3. When it completes, restart Windows and test the Crystal Reports–based application.

If problems persist, also run DISM health repair (if available in the environment) before running SFC again.

    1. Perform a clean boot to rule out conflicts A clean startup helps determine whether background services or third‑party components are interfering with Crystal Reports after the update.
    1. Press Win+R, type msconfig, press Enter.
    2. On the Services tab, select Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
    3. Click OK and restart the computer when prompted.
    4. Test the Crystal Reports–based application.

If it works under clean boot, re‑enable services in batches to find the conflicting component. This method is the same clean‑startup approach documented for troubleshooting application compatibility and update issues.

    1. Reinstall or repair Crystal Reports and the affected application Because the update may have changed system components Crystal Reports depends on, reinstalling or repairing Crystal Reports and the line‑of‑business application can restore correct registrations and dependencies.
    1. Uninstall Crystal Reports runtime (and, if appropriate, the main application) from Apps & Features.
    2. Restart the PC.
    3. Install the latest supported Crystal Reports runtime and the latest version of the application.
    4. Restart again and test.
    1. Let Windows Update complete fully Repeatedly uninstalling and hiding a cumulative update can leave the system in a partially updated state that causes more instability.
    1. Allow KB5077241 and any pending cumulative updates to install fully.
    2. Restart as many times as Windows requests until Settings → Windows Update shows the system is up to date.
    3. Test the application again.

If Windows Update reports that a restart is still required even after restarting multiple times, follow the guidance for repeated “computer needs to be restarted” conditions: restart a few times, then reinstall any recently installed updates that may have failed.

    1. If instability continues, use Reset this PC (keep files) If the system remains unstable (Crystal Reports and other apps crashing, Windows components misbehaving) after the steps above, use Reset this PC with Keep my files. This reinstalls Windows while preserving personal files but removes apps and resets system components, which often resolves deep compatibility and update issues.
    1. Go to Settings → System → Recovery.
    2. Under Recovery options, choose Reset this PC.
    3. Select Keep my files.
    4. Choose Cloud download if available for the cleanest image.
    5. Complete the reset, then reinstall Crystal Reports and the application and let Windows Update run fully.

This approach avoids fighting a specific update and instead restores a consistent, fully updated Windows environment, which is the supported baseline for troubleshooting application compatibility.
