recently i was attacked with malicious malware and lost my previous computer. following i had to create a new Microsoft account. in the process i had lost everything tied to the previous Microsoft account including the xbox account tied to my steam purchase of Microsoft flight sim any solution to resolve my purchase through steam to make the game playable again would be appreciated.

Steam purchases of Microsoft Flight Simulator are permanently tied to the Microsoft account/Xbox profile that was first linked when the game was activated. If that original Microsoft account is lost and cannot be recovered, the Steam license cannot be moved to a different Microsoft account.

The only viable path is to try to recover the original Microsoft account that was associated with the Steam purchase and Xbox profile, then sign into Flight Simulator with that account again.

Follow these steps:

Recover the hacked/compromised Microsoft account
1. Use the official hacked-account troubleshooter to start recovery: How to recover a hacked or compromised Microsoft account.
2. Before changing passwords, make sure the new PC is clean (run a full antivirus scan or use Windows Defender on Windows 11 as described in the article).
3. Then change or reset the password on the original Microsoft account if possible.
If sign-in fails, use the account recovery form
1. Go to the Microsoft Account Recovery form (ACSR) at https://account.live.com/acsr (from context) and submit a request for the original account.
2. Provide as much accurate information as possible: old passwords, approximate creation date, devices used, and any Microsoft services used with that account (Xbox, Outlook, OneDrive, etc.). The more detail provided, the better the chance of recovery. Guidance is in “Help with the Microsoft account recovery form.”
3. Submit from a device and location previously used with that account, if possible.
If recovery is repeatedly rejected
- According to the referenced guidance, if the recovery form and hacked-account process fail and security info has been replaced, there is no alternative method for Microsoft Support to restore access to that account. In that case, the Steam purchase that was bound to that Microsoft account cannot be reassigned to a new account.
After successful recovery
- Once the original Microsoft account is recovered and secured, sign into Xbox/Microsoft Flight Simulator on the new PC with that recovered account. Steam will still show the game as owned, and the Microsoft/Xbox services will recognize the entitlements tied to that original account.

If the account cannot be recovered despite following the official hacked-account and recovery-form processes, the game license tied to that account cannot be moved to the new Microsoft account, and a new purchase would be required to use a different Microsoft account.
