PIN being demanded by Outlook.

Outlook demands a PIN to sign in but I do not want or have a PIN.

I am going round in circles at the sign in.

Instructions are "MS Start? /Settings/Accounts/Sign in options" "Pin - Select" "Change"

This is unsuitable for this purpose and there is not even a slot to type into if I wanted to - so I am stuck.

I just want access to my mail and to sign in.

It is not offering me a password option.

Outlook is using Windows Hello sign-in (PIN) for the Microsoft account instead of offering the password prompt. Switch or remove the PIN requirement at the Windows level so Outlook can fall back to password.

Follow these steps on the Windows PC (not inside Outlook):

    1. Open Windows sign-in options
      • Select Start → Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options
or use this shortcut: Sign-in options
    2. Check the PIN (Windows Hello) section
      • On Windows 11: under Ways to sign-in, select PIN (Windows Hello).
      • On Windows 10: under Manage how you sign in to your device, select Windows Hello PIN.
    3. Either change or remove the PIN
      • To stop using a PIN entirely, choose Remove (or equivalent option) under PIN (Windows Hello) and confirm with the account password when prompted.
      • If the system insists on a PIN and you don’t know it, select I forgot my PIN and follow the on-screen steps to reset it, then you can remove it afterward.
    4. Sign in again in Outlook
      • Close Outlook completely, then reopen it.
      • When prompted to sign in, it should now allow using the account password instead of forcing a PIN.

If Windows Hello (face, fingerprint, PIN) is still enabled and required by policy, Outlook will continue to ask for a PIN because it uses the same account sign-in method as Windows. In that case, the PIN must be configured or removed at the Windows sign-in options level as above.
