We have encountered an issue where we are unable to invite any new B2B users to our Azure tenant. Seems to be a security mechanism that has kicked in automatically due to increased activity.

Response from the API: Entra External ID: Invitations are blocked for this directory due to suspicious activity.

Response from UI: "User invitation failed Insufficiant privileges to complete the operation."

  • We can no longer invite any new guests.
  • Our onboarding of legitimate users is fully blocked.
  • This is affecting critical business operations and timelines.
  1. Please review and remove the "suspicious activity" block on our directory's invitation capability.
  2. How do we make sure that this does not happen again in the future when inviting a large number of users in a short time frame?
Microsoft Security | Microsoft Entra | Microsoft Entra External ID
