Good day

I hold the SC-401 certification that I obtained on September 7th 2025. It is eligible to be renewed currently, however there is no way for me to renew this certification. I have checked using my Microsoft Learn profile, but I am still unable to do the renewal.

Please advise.

Thank you,

Riedewaan

The renewal period is open for 180 days before your expiry date. Renewal date/times are in UTC you will probably be able to renew from tomorrow

SC-401 is an associate-level role-based certification, so it is renewable via the standard Microsoft Learn renewal process.

    Key points and checks:

    1. Renewal method
      • The only way to renew is by passing the free online renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn. Retaking the original exam or taking a beta exam does not renew the certification.
    2. Timing
      • Role-based and specialty certifications expire after one year.
      • The renewal assessment becomes available 6 months before the certification’s expiration date and must be passed before the certification expires.
    3. Where to find the renewal option
      • Sign in to the correct Microsoft Learn profile.
      • Select the avatar → ProfileCertifications.
      • Look for a blue Renew button next to the SC-401 certification. That button is the entry point to the renewal assessment.
    4. If the Renew button is missing
      • Confirm that SC-401 appears on the Certifications tab and that it is still active (not expired). If it has already expired, it cannot be renewed and must be re-earned by passing the required exam again.
      • If the certification is active but the Renew button still does not appear, or if SC-401 is missing from the profile, use Microsoft Credentials Support to investigate missing or inaccessible credentials.
    5. If the certification has already expired
      • Once a certification expires, it cannot be renewed. The only option is to earn it again by passing the required exam(s).

For this specific situation—eligible for renewal but no renewal path visible—next steps are:

    1. Verify that the correct Learn account is being used and that SC-401 appears as an active certification on the Certifications tab.
    2. If SC-401 is missing or shows incorrectly, follow the guidance for missing certifications and contact Microsoft Credentials Support.
    3. If SC-401 is active but has no Renew button despite being within the 6‑month renewal window, open a support request with Microsoft Credentials Support so they can correct the renewal eligibility on the profile.
