A cloud-based identity and access management service for securing user authentication and resource access
Use the Azure portal sign-up flow and then check for the common blocking issues described below.
- Verify basic sign-up requirements
- Make sure profile information (contact email, street address, telephone number) is correct.
- Ensure credit card information is valid and matches the billing address on file with the bank.
- Confirm there is no other Microsoft account using exactly the same identity information.
- Choose the right account type
- If there was a previous Azure free trial or other subscription, a new free trial might not be available. In that case, sign up for a pay-as-you-go subscription instead.
- Walk through the Azure sign-up steps
The sign-up process has four stages:
- About you – enter country/region, name, email, phone, and address.
- Identity verification by phone – receive a code by SMS or call.
- Identity verification by card – validate the credit card.
- Agreement – accept the terms.
- Fix common phone verification issues
- Wait up to four minutes for the SMS or call.
- Ensure the phone can receive SMS/calls from a US-based number.
- Recheck the phone number and country code.
- If SMS does not arrive, use the “Call me” option.
- A VoIP number cannot be used; use a mobile or landline.
- If the country/region is not in the country code list, sign-up is not supported for that region.
- Fix common account eligibility issues
- If the message “We cannot proceed with sign-up due to an issue with your account. Please contact billing support” appears:
- Sign in to the Microsoft account center and verify billing/shipping details are complete and valid.
- Ensure the billing address for the card exactly matches bank records.
- Try a different browser or InPrivate/Incognito mode.
- If “You are not eligible for an Azure subscription” appears:
- Recheck all profile and credit card information.
- Ensure there is no duplicate Microsoft account with the same details.
- If “Your current account type is not supported” appears:
- The account might be in an unmanaged Microsoft Entra directory or created via the Microsoft 365 Developer Program.
- Sign up using a different account, or take over the unmanaged directory as described in the Entra ID documentation.
- If the message “We cannot proceed with sign-up due to an issue with your account. Please contact billing support” appears:
- If sign-up still fails
- If the portal indicates an account issue or eligibility problem that cannot be resolved with the steps above, contact Azure billing support as indicated in the error message so the Azure team can review and clear any account flags.
If there is no Azure subscription at all yet, first create an Azure account (free, pay-as-you-go, or via Visual Studio/corporate) and then proceed with the pay-as-you-go subscription option.
