Transfer Office License From Windows Desktop to MacBook Air

Office Home & Business 2016 is a one-time purchase license that is platform-specific. A license purchased as “for PC” is for Windows only and cannot be transferred to Mac.

Transfer of a one-time purchase license is allowed only between computers of the same supported platform (for example, from one Windows PC to another Windows PC), and even then only under the transfer terms in the Software License Terms and with reactivation (often by phone) after uninstalling from the original device.

To use Office on a MacBook Air, a separate Mac-compatible Office license or a Microsoft 365 subscription is required.
