A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents.
In Word, text disappearing while typing is usually caused by Overtype mode being turned on. Disable it as follows:
- In Word, select File > Options.
- Select Advanced.
- Under Editing options, clear both of these check boxes:
- Use the Insert key to control overtype mode
- Use overtype mode
- Select OK and then try typing again.
If text is being deleted when selecting it and pressing Delete or typing, also check Word preferences (on Mac) to ensure Delete selected text when you type is enabled.
If files themselves are being deleted outside of Word (for example, documents disappearing from folders), check OneDrive/SharePoint recycle bins and retention or deletion policies, but details for that scenario are not provided in the context here.
