My Pc installed Outlook states that my Subscription has expired, but it's paid current.

Hello. Not sure if the Q&A can actually answer this, because it's an account billing issue, but this is where the 'ai help' system sent me.

The outlook installed on my pc states "Subscrption expired, you're over the free limit for storage. Turn on recurring billing to avoid losing the ability to send and receive messages" then a button that says "renew"

I clicked on renew and logged into my Microsoft account and my bill is current and has been set on recurring for months. But in Feb, I had to cancel my card due to fraud and I didnt not get the new one in before the bill tried to run. Once I got the new card, I logged in and changed it but could not find an option to pay the Feb due. Now my billing history shows that Feb paid and March is paid. yet, I have the expired error. any thoughts?

Thanks!

The Outlook message is typically caused by a subscription or payment status mismatch between the local Office apps and the Microsoft account, often after a temporary payment failure.

    Follow these steps in order:

    1. Confirm the subscription is active and not expired
      1. Close all Office apps (including Outlook).
      2. Go to the Subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services.
      3. Sign in with the same Microsoft account used in Outlook.
      4. Under the Microsoft 365 heading, verify the status:
        • If it shows Has recurring billing, the subscription is active and set to renew on the date shown.
        • If it shows Expires on [date] or Expired, follow the renewal steps in the page linked there to reactivate.
    2. Make sure payment information is fully up to date Because the card was replaced after fraud, the old payment method may have caused a temporary suspension.
      1. Go to the Payment options page: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments.
      2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account.
      3. If the payment method shows any error or past-due indication, update or replace it.
      4. If there is a past-due balance, use Pay now where offered (see the guidance under “Pay for a past-due Microsoft subscription”).
    3. Check for and clear any “past-due” subscription state Even if February and March now show as paid, the subscription may have briefly gone into a past-due/suspended state and Outlook has cached that status.
      1. On https://account.microsoft.com/services, locate the Microsoft 365 subscription.
      2. If there is any past-due notice, follow the Pay now or similar prompt as described in the “Pay for a past-due Microsoft subscription” article.
    4. Turn recurring billing off and back on (if available) This can refresh the subscription state.
      1. On the Services & subscriptions page, select Manage next to the Microsoft 365 subscription.
      2. If recurring billing is on, temporarily Turn off recurring billing.
      3. Then select Turn on recurring billing again and complete the prompts.
    5. Restart Outlook and re-check activation After fixing the account and payment details:
      1. Close Outlook and all Office apps.
      2. Reopen Outlook and sign in again with the same Microsoft account.
      3. The “Subscription expired” banner should clear once Outlook refreshes the license status.

If the subscription is confirmed active, payment info is correct, no past-due balance exists, and the banner still appears after restarting Outlook, contact Microsoft Support directly from the “renew” or “fix account” link or via the support options on the account site, as the account may need a back-end license refresh.
