I signed up for an Azure free account

I received the Email Confirmation from Microsoft Support (You have 30 days left to use your credit)

Whenever I try and Login I get the following error message “This tenant has been blocked due to inactivity”

How do I fix this?

If I cannot be fixed how do I remove the Credit card so I can try and set this up again?

The tenant is currently inaccessible because it was blocked due to inactivity. There are two parts to address: reactivating the tenant so sign-in works again, and what to do if reactivation is not possible.

    1. Try to reactivate the tenant
      • The error AADSTS5000225: This tenant has been blocked due to inactivity means the tenant has been put into an inactive state.
      • Administrators can request reactivation within 20 days of the tenant entering this inactive state. After 20 days, the tenant is deleted and can’t be recovered.
      • To request reactivation, the tenant administrator must contact Microsoft using the global support phone numbers listed in the documentation. See the guidance under “Administrators” in the tenant-inaccessible article.
      • While the case is in progress, do not open multiple support requests for the same issue.
    2. Alternative sign-in paths that sometimes help
      • If the tenant is still within the reactivation window, it can sometimes help to sign in directly to the tenant using:
        • https://portal.azure.com/<TenantId> or
        • https://portal.azure.com/<yourTenantName>.onmicrosoft.com
      • If access is restored, manage the subscription and payment methods (including the credit card) from the Azure portal as usual.
    3. If the tenant cannot be reactivated
      • If more than 20 days have passed since the tenant became inactive, it is deleted and cannot be recovered.
      • In that case, the documented path is to work with Microsoft support (using the global support phone numbers) to confirm the tenant status and discuss next steps.
      • If the tenant is permanently deleted and no longer accessible, the associated Azure subscription and its billing profile will also be removed as part of the standard lifecycle; at that point, the stored payment method is no longer used for that subscription.
    4. If sign-in issues persist but tenant is not actually inactive
      • Some users with similar symptoms were able to proceed by:
        • Clearing all browser site data and signing out of all Microsoft accounts, then signing in again to the Azure portal.
        • Or going back to the Azure sign-up flow at https://signup.azure.com (from a clean/incognito browser session). In one reported case, the account still had an active free trial and required an “upgrade” to a pay-as-you-go account to continue using the existing free services.

To directly remove or change the credit card, access to the Azure portal with an active tenant and subscription is required. If the tenant remains blocked and cannot be reactivated, resolving that with Microsoft support is the prerequisite; only after access is restored can the payment method be managed.
