driveItem delta behaviour for subfolder deletions

I am seeking clarification regarding the behaviour of the delta api endpoints : when a folder is deleted, and that folder contains files and/or subfolders, does the delta response include:

A deleted item entry only for the folder itself, or

Deleted item entries for the folder and each descendant item (files and subfolders)?

In other words, does the delta feed guarantee individual deleted facets for all items within a deleted subtree, or should clients assume that a folder-level deletion implicitly represents deletion of its entire hierarchy?
