My current Microsoft user account name is with a company I have sold. I have a new company and want to change it to that. But when I do, there is a warning that "the email is a company and your account data may be lost". What should i do?

To change your Microsoft user account name, especially if it is associated with a company you have sold, you will need to follow specific steps depending on whether you are using a personal account or a Microsoft 365 account.

If you are using a Microsoft 365 account, you may need to be an administrator to make changes. Here’s a general approach:

    1. Access the Microsoft 365 admin center: Sign in to the admin center with your administrator account.
    2. Navigate to Users: Go to Users > Active users.
    3. Select the User: Click on the user whose name you want to change.
    4. Manage Contact Information: On the Account tab, select Manage contact information to change the display name.
    5. Save Changes: Make your changes and save them.

If you encounter a warning about potential data loss, it may be due to the account being tied to a company domain. In such cases, it’s advisable to consult with your IT department or Microsoft support to ensure that you do not lose any important data.

For personal Microsoft accounts, you can change your display name by going to your profile settings and updating your display name there.

Make sure to back up any important data before making changes to avoid any loss.
