Most account verification is now associated with a smartphone or device that receives SMS text messages.

Is Microsoft aware that MANY people and MANY online accounts cannot receive an SMS text message?

In addition, MANY people and MANY online accounts cannot use an Authenicator application or extension that works on their account?

Is Microsoft considering verification options (other than email) for the MANY people that Do NOT receive SMS text messages?

I have no problems verifying my identity with my email or with NON_SMARTPHONE VOICE mail verification codes.

Microsoft recognizes that not all users can receive SMS text messages for account verification. In fact, they recommend moving away from using SMS and voice calls for multifactor authentication (MFA) in favor of more modern authentication methods, such as the Microsoft Authenticator app. This app can generate verification codes even without a cellular signal and is available for various platforms, including Android and iOS.

For users who cannot use SMS or the Authenticator app, Microsoft does provide alternatives, such as voice call verification. However, it's important to note that phone call verification is not available for Microsoft Entra tenants with trial subscriptions.

If users are experiencing issues with receiving SMS or using the Authenticator app, they are encouraged to explore other verification methods or reach out to their administrator for support. Microsoft is continuously working to improve the reliability of their authentication methods and may consider additional options based on user feedback.
