This depends on the type of Moderator you are wanting to be.

Volunteer Moderators are chosen by Microsoft. This is after a considerable amount of time contributing on the Microsoft Q&A community. Our responses must be helpful and we must uphold the community Code of Conduct.

When there is need for more moderators, then Microsoft and other moderators may nominate you. You will then be reviewed by the Microsoft staff who oversee this community. If they are happy with your contributions, then they may reach out and ask if you would like to be a moderator.

I would recommend building your reputation by being helpful in the community by answering questions. I often find that by focusing on helping people on the community and not trying over hard just to be a moderator stands out. I remember when I first started on the community, I didn't care about being a mod. I was happy helping people on the community, whereas others were trying hard to be noticed just so they can be moderators. I ended up been asked and they didn't. This was all because I was just helping people, which stood out more.
