Images partially rendered (top-left corner only) on macOS Tahoe 26.2 / PPT 16.105.2

Hello,

I am troubleshooting an issue on my supervisor's MacBook Pro that appears to be specific to the latest macOS/Office combination. On certain slides in large presentations, pictures are cut off. Only a small portion of the image (usually the top-left corner) is visible, while the rest of the image area is blank/white, see the screenshot below.

The slide files are not corrupted, as they open correctly on my MacBook with full images (same version of macOS and PPT). Also, the images are displayed correctly in the supervisor's PowerPoint for the Web.

We tried to copy/paste the affected images to a new slide, and "Save as..." to a new file, but neither worked.

What can be the problem?

    Based on the information you described, I understand that on your supervisor’s MacBook Pro, certain images in large PowerPoint presentations are partially cut off, only a small portion of the image (typically the top-left corner) is visible while the rest appears blank. The same files open correctly on another Mac with the same macOS and PowerPoint version and also display correctly in PowerPoint for the Web.

    In my own environment, the images are working normally, which suggests this may be a local PowerPoint/macOS issue specific to that device.

    To help narrow this down, could you please let me know:

    -What image format was used for the affected pictures (for example: PNG, JPG, TIFF, SVG)?

    For example, if you take a screenshot of that image and add it using the screenshot tool in that position, will the error still occur?

    Then, I recommend reinstalling PowerPoint and rolling back to a stable version to check whether the issue persists on that machine. Please try reinstalling PowerPoint version 16.103 from the official Microsoft update history page and test the presentation again.

    Hi,

    Downgrading the PowerPoint might work, though according to the supervisor, the newer version will automatically overwrite the previous one because he has automatic update settings enabled.

    We consulted with IT support in our department, and they were able to reproduce the error. The symptom is that the smaller we scale down the view from the under-right slider (less than 100%), the more of the image is shown.

    Here is the reply from IT support:

    Test on macOS 26.3RC:

    • verified which format the „image“ is -> grouped/layered elements (Microsoft Office Graphic Object)
    • copied and pasted it in different file formats (SVG, PNG, TIFF) -> output results in the same broken image as if source was scaled to 100%
    • Downgrade PP 16.105.03 -> 16.105, same issue
    • Downgrade PP 16.105 -> 16.104.1, same issue
    • Upgrade PP  16.104.1 -> 16.106, same issue
    • Upgrade PP  16.106 -> 16.107 beta, same issue

    This slide works on my Mac running macOS 26.2 + PP Version 16.105 (26011018).
